Birt Kidwell Winter Skeet and Trap League Winners

by John Seaberg

Now that we’re in the dog days of summer with shorts and T-shirts the preferred shooting garb, it becomes difficult to recall the bitter cold and snow blown winds typical of shooting conditions during our 2006 Birt Kidwell Winter Skeet and Trap League. None the less, the league again proved to be a great competitive experience for all league members, whether for recognition of their shooting ability or the opportunity to improve their marksmanship skills. The league fielded a record 28 teams this year, filling out the roster with 168 shooters. The competition for both team and individual honors proved to be as intense as ever with the final standings being decided on the very last day of the season.
Our Top Gun for 2006 Erik Bauer, who broke 564 out of 600 targets for a High Overall Average of 23.500.  Alan Hickerson took home the award for High Skeet Average by hitting 293 of 300 targets for a 24.417 average. Matt Love was right behind Alan and took the Skeet Runner Up award with a 24.167 average.  Kevin Donaldson, Brian Hickerson, Pat McCrory and John Hunter were all contenders for the Skeet award, finishing within 10 targets of the winning score.  High Trap Average was equally competitive, but Adel Moussa won the prize for the second consecutive year with an average of 23.583, breaking 283 of 300 targets.  Don DiCicco was our Trap Runner Up winner with a 23.083 average.  Pat McCrory, Tom Wyckoff, and Mel Keener rounded out the top trap guns.  The Most Improved individual award goes to the person who accomplishes the highest increase in their combined trap and skeet average from the 2005 season.  The 2006 winner is Tom Rymer, who shot an impressive 4.458 points higher than last year.
The top six teams received awards for winning the most points in match competition. Toping out the standings was Captain Bill Kreb’s Team 8 which won 29.0 points out of a possible 36.  Mike Burlein, Whayne Haffler, Joe Roberts, Phil Tomlinson, and Tom Wyckoff rounded out the top team. Second place with 27.5 points went to Team 21 members: Bob Brino, Don DiCicco, Goff Ingram, Pat McCrory, Adel Moussa (Captain), and Mike Zook.Third place with 27.0 points went to Team 7 members: Dave Carlson, John Hunter, Mike Logwood (Captain), John Seaberg, John Skuchko, and Dwight Williams. Fourth place with 25.5 points went to Team 25 members: Kevin Donaldson, Paul Grummon, Alan Hickerson, Brian Hickerson (Captain), Glen Hickerson, and Tom Warren. Fifth place also with 24.0 points went to Team 19 members: Jorge Bonilla, Wesley Ford, Tom Horio, George King, Doug Minnig (Captain), and Robert Milikian. Sixth place with 23.5 points went to Team 5 members: Bill Donnelly, Rob Ellis, Bob Hohman, Vicki Kingslien, Greg Wilcox, and Randolph Williams (Captain).
Our league awards banquet was held on the 30th of April where league members and their families enjoyed a relaxing interlude of good food and fellowship.  As usual, Bob Brino, Chairman Trap and Skeet, presided over the presentation of the awards.  Special thanks go to Rick Kohne for doing all the cooking and to all of the league members who contributed food items and helped with set up, clean up, and organize this year’s banquet.
It may be hot outside now, but the 2007 winter league season will be here before you know it. Look for an announcement in the Fall Newsletter for details and sign-up information.
