Are You New to Shooting?
Want to Learn to Shoot Safely & Accurately?
Like to Try Service Rifle Competition?
May 7, June 17, 2006
The
Virginia Shooting Sports Association (VSSA), your state shooting
association, is sponsoring a series of clinics to help both new and
inexperienced shooters improve their rifle marksmanship skills and to
promote service rifle competitive target shooting in Virginia. The
service rifle clinics will be held at the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club in
Manassas VA.
Clinics have been scheduled for May 7 and June 17.
At the clinics, shooters will receive instruction in gun safety; in
shooting in the standing, sitting and prone positions; in trigger
control; in sight alignment; in breath control; and in judging the
effect wind has on point of impact. The clinics will be conducted by
experienced competitive shooters and military team coaches and will
consist of both classroom instruction and target shooting at 200 yards.
Rifles and ammunition are vailable to those who do
not have their own M-1, M-14 or M-16/AR-15 to use. The cost to
participate in a clinic is nominal: There is no charge for junior
shooters (persons less than 18 years of age); $50.00 for adults using
VSSA provided rifle and ammunition and $25.00 for adults using their
own rifle and ammunition.
Participants will be required to either be members
of the Virginia State Shooting Association or to join. Membership forms
will be available at the clinics. The cost of membership in VSSA is
only $20.00.
For further information or to register for one or
more clinics, call 703.389.3821 or send an email to either VSSAClinics@cox.net
or billyssahpc@aol.com.
Registration is limited and priority will be given to junior shooters,
so reserve your place now.
Clinic participants will be given the opportunity
to join the VSSA competitive shooting program which trains and fields
teams for state and national level shooting competiton.

Skeet - Bender-Shima Shooting Clinic
Doug Minnig
Todd
Bender and John Shima, of the Bender-Shima Shooting Clinics again
taught skeet to IWLA members and guests in April at the Skeet and Trap
Range. Thank you, Ikes for supporting this exceptional learning
opportunity.
The next Bender-Shima Shooting Clinic will be held
in November 2006. The timing of the November clinic is great for
Christmas presents, for wing shooters that want to be able to
consistently hit that duck or goose, and for Winter League shotgunners
who want to be able to eliminate those frustrating “why did I
miss that” misses. The instructors focus on stance, hold
points, look points, lead, and “hitting the
target”. Their experience has given them a thousand tricks to
help individual shooters with individual problems.
John Shima and Todd Bender each have taught skeet
for over 25 years. Together they have a combined 18 World Championship
titles. Focusing on all aspects of the sport of skeet shooting, along
with an extensive exposure to wing shooting and sporting clays, Todd
and John were recognized as the first Master Instructors by the
National Skeet Shooting Association. They are also trained by
England’s Clay Pigeon Shooting Association. In addition, they
are two of the few clay target coaches in the United States to receive
an Honorary Fellowship in the Institute of Clay Target Coaches in
England.
For reservations for the November clinics, please
call Doug Minnig at 703.371.1018
or 703.318.0214,
or e-mail him at doug_minnig@sra.com
